DA,Siquijor launches project to improve cassava yields

The Department of Agriculture through the Provincial Agriculture Technology and Coordinating Office (PATCO) Siquijor launched a project to manufacture cassava seed-pieces recently in Nagerong, Lazi.

According to Rodolfo Anulacion, Agriculturist II of PATCO-Siquijor, the project aims to maximize Siquijor’s potential to increase cassava production through modern methods of its cultivation.

Provincial Agriculturist of the Office of Provincial Agriculture Emigdio Coritico, hoped the project would progress so that other farmers from neighboring barangays could get “cassava cultivars” to be used in the project.

According to him based on the previous harvest of Parian, Enrique Villanueva in 2020, Rayong 5 has the highest yield and starch content compared to other cassava cultivars. “So, this is what we multiply,” he told the farmers.

Michael Malhin a farmer cooperator, expressed his great gratitude that he had won the project.

In addition, a corn-techno demo project has also been launched with the aim of improving maize production in the province.
